Alderman Lamont Robinson

Alderman Lamont Robinson, a proud son of Chicago, embodies the tenacity and dedication that fuels the city’s growth and development. Growing up between the contrasting worlds of King Drive and Cottage Grove in Chatham, Alderman Robinson was shaped by a strong foundation of family, faith, and exposure to opportunities. His journey reflects the importance of community, mentorship, and education in overcoming challenges and creating impactful change.

After attending Clark Atlanta University, a historically Black University, Alderman Robinson returned to Chicago to make a difference. “I wanted to come back home and support my mother, and I knew I could make a bigger impact here in Chicago,” he shared. His decision to return led to a dynamic career in education, entrepreneurship, and public service. Over the past 17 years, he has successfully run three Allstate agencies, taught at City Colleges of Chicago, and led a mentoring program that has sent hundreds of young men to colleges nationwide.


Alderman Robinson’s experience as a City Colleges of Chicago professor highlights his passion for empowering students through education. Teaching courses like entrepreneurship, business management, and college success, he instilled in his students the value of perseverance, preparation, and self-belief. “Education is about finding the right fit,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of matching students with institutions where they can thrive.

 As an advocate for higher education, Alderman Robinson champions the role of Chicago’s colleges and universities in shaping the city’s future. He encourages young people to consider the rich opportunities available within Chicago, highlighting the city’s diverse institutions, robust scholarship programs, and vibrant campus communities. “We have schools at all levels here,” he said. “It’s about finding an institution that fits you and setting yourself up for success.”

Through his leadership in public office and his dedication to empowering the next generation, he continues to inspire and uplift his community.
