Dr. Espiritu, fondly known by her students as “Dr. E,” represents the passion and innovation driving the future of education in Chicago. Her work creating pathways for underserved students, particularly in STEM fields, has been recognized by many, including being named as one of the 2023 Notable Women in STEM by Crain Business Chicago. As the founder and Dean of the Engineering Program at Wilbur Wright College, she has built bridges between community colleges and top universities, giving students second and third chances to succeed, often against the odds.
An immigrant from the Philippines and a first-generation college graduate, Dr. E’s journey is one of resilience and excellence. From overcoming financial struggles during her undergraduate years to earning a Ph.D. in the U.S., her story inspires her students, many of whom face similar challenges.
